Ana Lillebø (Scientific coordinator of RESTORE4Cs) participated in the panel discussion “Wetland Restoration: Challenges, Needs and Opportunities” during the final conference of the sister projects ALFAwetlands and REWET, held under the theme “Wetland Solutions for the Future”. The panel brought together experts from across Europe to discuss key challenges and opportunities for scaling up wetland restoration and maximizing its benefits for climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and societal well-being. The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging experiences, fostering synergies, and exploring pathways to accelerate large-scale ecosystem restoration across Europe. In addition, by advancing the understanding of the environmental, social, and economic benefits of ecosystem restoration, RESTORE4Cs supports BESIDE’s mission to strengthen research and innovation in sustainable natural resource management and environmental economics. The project provides valuable evidence on the societal value of wetland and coastal restoration, helping to inform policies and decision-making processes that foster climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development in Portugal.
